Money Makes The World Go Round

This post was inspired by two recent conversations I had.

One was with my girlfriend, she was ranting to me about how we’re forced to work now to in order to afford living a comfortable life. Somewhere along the lines we also talked about how at the end of the day, money is inevitably what separates us from our dreams.

The second one was with people at my workplace where someone equated money to happiness.

These two conversations got me thinking about much power money has and how our lives are controlled by the amount of dollar bills we have. No doubt that money is the main source of maintaining an orderly society, without it all of us would probably be at war with each other and looting for goods. But truth be told, it has gotten to a point where money IS essentially everything and gone are the days where happiness comes from the simple things in life.

While the world is changing, money is still at the heart of it. We can have better technologies, infrastructure, medical advancement, etc – but what’s the use if we don’t have money to gain access to it?

We were always told to choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life. FALSE. What if I love volunteering, is that going to pay for my rent? If I love painting, is it enough to get me by if I have to live paycheck to paycheck?

Money, I believe is paramount to producing effective work, after all people need to have a target to constantly aim towards. If we are not working for the money, what are we then working for? One can argue, we work for experience  and not the money. To a certain extent, yes we do work for the experience. But we accumulate those experience to prove our expertise to society that we are of higher value and therefore deserve a raise, bonus, or other forms of rewards.

At the end of the day, money is essentially the key which unlocks almost all our problems in life. It gives us access to almost everything in life. The amount of access we are able to unlock is determined by our bank balance and that is essentially why we go to school, get a degree and find a job. It becomes a mundane cycle where we are all chasing after earning bigger bucks to be a step closer to achieving what we want. How long exactly is this suppose to last?

The constant cycle of needing to generate more money to self-sustain our lifestyles is sickening, to say the least. It IS true that money has this insane power that makes us work like maniacs and God forbids there comes a day where it becomes the only thing we mankind are concern about. But hey, don’t say I didn’t warn you that money makes the world go round, in circles even.
